Where to Stay in Da Nang: Neighborhood by Neighborhood
Where you stay in Da Nang affects what you can easily do on foot and how often you will need transport during your stay.
For most visitors, the choice comes down to a few main areas: My Khe for easy beach access, An Thuong and My An for walkable restaurants and cafés, and Hai Chau for a more city-focused stay, quieter parts of the coast toward Son Tra, or the resort area around Non Nuoc.
These areas do not always have clear boundaries, so the exact location of your hotel matters too.
Instead of looking for the single “best” neighborhood, it is more useful to think about what you want close by during your stay.
First, Decide What You Want Close to Your Hotel
A simple way to choose where to stay is to think about what you would like to do without calling a taxi or Grab.

Main trade-off |
|
Easy beach access and a convenient all-round base |
My Khe |
Busier and more tourist-oriented |
|
Beach plus walkable restaurants, cafés and evening activity |
An Thuong / My An |
Some streets can be lively at night |
|
Markets, restaurants and the Han River |
Hai Chau |
You will need transport to reach the beach |
|
A quieter coastal setting |
Northern coast / Son Tra side |
Fewer places within easy walking distance |
|
A resort-focused beach stay |
Non Nuoc / southern coast |
More reliance on the resort or transport |
You will probably use transport for some sightseeing no matter where you stay. What matters more are the journeys you expect to make regularly.
If you plan to visit the beach most mornings, staying close to it will save more time than choosing a hotel simply because it is slightly closer to one attraction. If breakfast, coffee, and dinner on foot matter more, pay closer attention to what surrounds the hotel.
My Khe — The Most Convenient Beach-and-City Compromise

My Khe is a practical choice if you want easy beach access without moving farther out to a quieter resort area.
The beachfront and nearby streets have plenty of hotels, making it easy to fit a beach walk or swim around the rest of your plans.
The city side of the Han River is not right outside your hotel, but other parts of Da Nang remain accessible by road. This gives you a convenient balance between beach time and exploring elsewhere.
However, “My Khe” can refer to a fairly long stretch of coast rather than one small neighborhood. Staying close to An Thuong can feel quite different from staying farther north or south.
Also check what a hotel means when it calls itself beachfront. Many properties face the sea from across the coastal road, so having a sea view does not always mean the hotel opens directly onto the sand.
Choose My Khe if: having the beach nearby is important, but you still want an easy base for exploring the rest of Da Nang.
Think twice if: you mainly want markets, restaurants, and city life outside your hotel, or you prefer a quiet resort-style stay.
An Thuong and My An — Better If You Want to Walk Out for Food and Drinks
An Thuong and My An are around the southern part of Da Nang's main beach area. The names can overlap depending on how hotels and booking websites describe their location.
What matters more is that this part of beachside Da Nang has a stronger concentration of restaurants, cafés, bars, and everyday services.
You can stay close to the beach while also having plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance.
It suits travellers who like going out for breakfast, coffee, or dinner rather than relying on their hotel for meals. This can be especially useful on longer stays, when nearby shops, cafés, and restaurants become part of your daily routine.
The trade-off is that busier streets can also mean more evening noise. The atmosphere can change noticeably within just a few blocks.
Choose An Thuong or My An if: you want the beach nearby but also want to walk to restaurants, cafés and bars.
Think twice if: you want very quiet surroundings or plan to spend most of your time inside a full-service resort.
Hai Chau and the Han River — Better If You Prefer the City to the Beach

Hai Chau is a better option if you would rather stay close to central Da Nang, the Han River, markets, and city restaurants than wake up beside the beach.
This side of Da Nang feels different from My Khe and An Thuong. You are closer to markets, the riverfront, and more of central Da Nang's everyday city activity.
The main compromise is the beach.
My Khe is still easy to reach, but going there becomes a short journey rather than something you can casually do before breakfast or at the end of the day.
If you expect to spend more time eating, walking, and exploring around the city than relaxing on the beach, Hai Chau can make sense. If regular beach time is important, staying on the other side of the river will usually be easier.
Choose Hai Chau if: city life matters more to you than having the beach close to your hotel.
Think twice if: you picture yourself heading to the beach most mornings or returning easily to your room during a beach day.
Son Tra-Side Coast — More Peace, Less Everyday Convenience
If you look north of the busiest My Khe and An Thuong areas, you can find quieter coastal areas toward the Son Tra side of Da Nang.
Some parts around Man Thai and the northern stretch of the coast feel calmer than the main beach area.
However, be careful with the name Son Tra.
Son Tra covers a large area, and hotels using the name can range from regular coastal properties to much more secluded resorts.
This part of the coast suits travellers who prefer some distance from the busiest tourist streets and nightlife. You can still stay near the sea, but there may be fewer cafés, restaurants, and bars immediately around you.
A quieter location can also mean relying on transport more often for meals or sightseeing.
Choose the quieter Son Tra-side coast if: you prefer calmer surroundings and do not mind having fewer restaurants and bars nearby.
Think twice if: you want to leave your hotel and have plenty of food and nightlife options within a few blocks.
Non Nuoc and the Southern Resort Coast — Best When the Resort Is Part of the Trip
Continue south from My Khe and My An, and the coastline gradually becomes more resort-focused.
Around Non Nuoc, you will find larger properties and a quieter setting than in the main beach neighborhoods.
This area makes the most sense when the hotel or resort itself is an important part of your holiday. Slow mornings by the pool, resort facilities, and meals at your accommodation are easier to build into the trip here.
It is less convenient if you like choosing restaurants at the last minute or regularly heading out to cafés, shops, and bars. You can still travel into busier parts of Da Nang, but you will depend more on transport.
That is the main difference from My Khe. My Khe works well when the beach is part of a wider city trip. Non Nuoc works better when the beach and resort are a bigger part of the holiday.
Choose Non Nuoc and the southern coast if: you want a quieter resort stay and expect to spend plenty of time at your accommodation.
Think twice if: you want Da Nang's restaurants, shops, and everyday city life right outside your hotel.
Before Booking, Check the Exact Hotel Location
Choosing the right neighborhood only gets you part of the way.
Areas such as My Khe, My An, and An Thuong can overlap in hotel listings, and two hotels using the same neighborhood name can offer very different levels of convenience.
Before booking, check the hotel pin on the map and look at how you would actually get to the places you expect to use most.
If the beach matters to you, check whether you need to cross a major road and where the nearest practical beach access is. If restaurants and cafés are more important, see whether the places you would realistically visit are within a comfortable walk rather than simply somewhere in the same neighborhood.
Also look at what surrounds the property. Being close to bars and restaurants can be convenient, but it can also mean more noise in the evening. A hotel just a few streets away may feel much quieter.
The neighborhood helps narrow down your options. The exact hotel location determines how convenient your stay will actually be.
So, Which Part of Da Nang Should You Stay In?
For a balance of beach access and wider Da Nang sightseeing, start with My Khe. Choose An Thuong or My An if walkable cafés, restaurants, and bars matter just as much as the beach, or Hai Chau and the Han River if you would rather stay in the city and visit the coast when you want to.
Look toward the quieter Son Tra-side coast if calmer surroundings matter more than walkable convenience, or Non Nuoc and the southern coast if the resort itself will be a major part of your trip.
Whichever area you choose, check the exact hotel location before booking. In Da Nang, the right few streets can matter just as much as the neighborhood name.
